Cops release CCTV in hunt for attacker who sexually assaulted woman before fleeing

COPS have released CCTV footage amid an urgent manhunt after a woman was sexually assaulted.

South Yorkshire Police revealed footage of a man they want to speak to after the attack unfolded in Sheffield.

The victim was targeted on July 9 earlier this year at 2.51pm on Matilda Street.

She was followed by a man before being sexually assaulted.

Police understand the attacker fled the scene by foot.

The force have released CCTV footage of a man wearing grey trousers and a light blue tie dye hoodie they want to speak to.

He is described as being aged between late 20s to early 30s, and is of slim build, standing at around 5ft 8in tall.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “We’re releasing a CCTV image of a man officers would like to speak to in connection with a reported sexual assault in Sheffield.

“It is reported that on Tuesday 9 July at 2.51pm on Matilda Street, a woman was followed by a man and sexually assaulted. It is believed the man then fled the scene on foot.

“Following the incident officers launched an investigation and have carried out extensive enquiries including CCTV trawls, forensic testing, and area searches to establish the circumstances and find the individual responsible.

“Enquiries remain ongoing but officers are keen to identify the man in the images as they may be able to assist with enquiries.

“The man is described as white, in his late 20s to early 30s, of slim build and 5ft 8in tall. He is wearing grey trousers and a light blue tie dye hoodie.
