LOS ANGELES — Fire in the duct system beneath Crypto.com Arena downtown sent smoke flowing from a first-floor storage room and activated sprinklers on the first and second floors Saturday.
The smoke was first reported at 4:16 p.m. at the arena at 1111 S. Figueroa Street south of Chick Hearn Court, said the Los Angeles Fire Department’s Margaret Stewart. Firefighters located the source of the fire at 4:50 p.m. and began cleanup.
The smoke was moderate when firefighters arrived, and gradually lessened to the point they could isolate the source, Stewart said.
“Firefighters located the source within the ducting system in Sub Level One up to the first floor,” she said.
There were no events listed as being in progress at the time of the fire.
No active flames were seen, she said. No injuries were reported.
Firefighters remained at the scene to clean up the water from the sprinklers, she said.
