ANTIOCH — An 18-year-old man suspected of shooting a person with a replica gun Wednesday was arrested after an hour of tense negotiations with officers, police said.
The victim suffered an undisclosed injury after being hit with a metal ball bearing from the replica gun, according to a statement from Antioch police Sgt. Kristian Palma.
Police arrested the suspect on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, Palma said.
It all happened about 5:05 p.m. on Wightman Court off W. Tregallas Road. Palma said police received a call that shots were fired during a verbal disturbance in front of a residence. As officers responded, police received more reports of shots being fired.
Police surrounded the residence, and needed a crisis negotiation team, a SWAT team and officers in a Brentwood police armored rescue vehicle to gain enough control of the situation that they removed the victim. Police did not say how severe the victim’s injury was.
The de-escalation efforts went on for about an hour until the suspect finally surrendered peacefully, Palma said.
According to police, the incident was an isolated one, and there was no further threat to the community.
