Dad-of-three, 42, dies after touching down on ‘last-minute’ trip to Benidorm

A father-of-three died just hours after landing on a lads’ trip to Spain after collapsing near a beach.

A last-minute holiday to the popular Costa Blanca resort of Benidorm turned into a nightmare when Joseph McManus, 42, suddenly collapsed.

The dad, from Dingle, Ireland, had touched down at the airport some hours before with a group of pals.

Joseph, who worked for DHL at Jaguar Land Rover, had decided to join the vacation after other people dropped out.

Joseph suddenly collapsed on the Benidorm strip on Friday and he was sadly pronounced dead, Liverpool Echo reports.

His friend, Lee Beck, told the outlet: ‘Everyone loved Joseph. He was always smiling and was a big entertainer.’

He said Joseph ‘loved all his kids, his partner Leanne and his family’ and he was ‘football mad.’

He continued: ‘He was a happy-go-lucky guy. He was kind and caring. He was always stopping people in the street and asking them how they were.

‘He was a brilliant dad. He doted on all of his children.’

Joseph’s mum is ‘still waiting to get a WhatsApp message from him,’ Lee said, adding that she ‘keeps saying it’s not real.’

‘His sisters are devastated. They’re all going through it,’ he said.

Lee, who had known Joseph since nursery, said the family is now raising money to bring him home.

The GoFundMe fundraiser had raised more than £10,000 within days.

Lucas Beck, who started the fundraiser, said: ‘Everyone loved this lad he was a legend. Let’s help his family and get him home.’
