Quentin Young found his swing in the offseason and used it to shatter Oaks Christian’s home run record in his senior year.

The 6-foot-6, 225-pound shortstop went yard 14 times this season, which surpassed the program’s previous record of eight home runs. At the conclusion of the Lions’ season, Young ranked second in California in home runs.

Young, the Marmonte League Player of the Year, is committed to LSU but likely has a professional career ahead of him — he’s ranked among the top high school prospects in this summer’s MLB draft that will take place July 13-14.

He finished his final season as a Lion with a .381 batting average, 32 hits, 32 runs and 34 RBIs in addition to 48 putouts with 12 errors in 29 games.

PITCHER OF THE YEAR

Hunter Manning, West Ranch, Senior

The UC Irvine signee and Foothill League Player of the Year pitched his third complete game of the season in that championship game. He allowed one unearned run and four hits while adding six strikeouts to lead West Ranch to victory over Mater Dei.

Manning went 10-0 in his senior season with a 0.74 ERA. He recorded 112 strikeouts and 21 walks in 75 2/3 innings.
