A 32-year-old Denver driver was arrested on suspicion of fleeing the scene of an Aurora hit-and-run that killed a pedestrian Tuesday night, according to the police department.
Aurora officers responded to the hit-and-run on East Colfax Avenue, between Laredo Street and Chambers Road, at about 6:40 p.m. Tuesday, according to a news release from the police department.
An unidentified man was crossing Colfax when he was struck by the driver of a GMC SUV who fled the scene, police said in the news release. The pedestrian died from his injuries at the scene of the crash and will be publicly identified by the Adams County Coroner’s Office.
The crash cleanup and investigation shut down the stretch of road for hours on Tuesday night.
Investigators used Flock-brand cameras that read license plates to identify the suspect vehicle, police said. Officers then responded to a Denver address associated with the vehicle and contacted the suspected driver, 32-year-old Daryl Murray.
Murray was arrested on suspicion of driving with a suspended license, failing to notify police of a crash and leaving the scene of a crash, according to Aurora police.
As of Wednesday morning, he was being held at the Aurora Detention Center on $20,000 bail, police said. His next court date was not immediately available.
