Denver man gets 8 years probation for attempted child sex assault in Larimer County

A Denver man arrested last year after being caught in a Larimer County child predator sting took a deal and pleaded guilty to attempted child sex assault, according to court records.

Malcom Cardelle McCrea, 37, was sentenced last week to 8 years of probation in the sex offender intensive supervision program and two years of community corrections as a condition of his parole, court records show.

McCrea pleaded guilty to attempted child sex assault and a cybercrime charge for soliciting a minor for prostitution, both felonies. The deal dropped additional felony charges of soliciting child prostitution and attempted to patronize a prostituted child from his case, according to court records.

The Denver man was one of dozens who investigators said responded to Larimer County sheriff’s deputies posing as children selling sex on local websites. He was arrested in December when he traveled to meet one of the fictional children.

“The defendant will successfully complete sex offender treatment with all attendant terms and conditions therein and will successfully complete any other recommended program of counseling or treatment,” the plea agreement stated.

McCrea will also be required to register as a sex offender and have no contact with anyone under the age of 18, according to the plea document.
