Denver rail worker trapped, seriously injured by derailed BNSF train

A rail worker was trapped and seriously injured after train cars derailed in the BNSF Globeville Yard, the Denver Fire Department said Tuesday.

Fire crews responded to the yard at 3700 Globeville Road at 12:13 a.m. and were able to free the trapped man. He was taken to the hospital with severe injuries to his right leg, the fire department said.

The man was rushed into surgery and his right leg was later amputated, the Sheet Metal Air Rail and Transportation Workers Union told Denver7.

In a statement, BNSF officials confirmed an employee was injured “while performing work inside our Denver yard” and was taken to the hospital.

The National Transportation Safety Board is also investigating the crash, federal officials said in a post on social media.
