Denver sheriff’s deputy arrested on allegations of off-duty sexual misconduct involving former inmate

The Denver Police Department on Monday arrested a sheriff’s deputy accused of sexually assaulting a former jail inmate.

Deputy Abdirahman Ahmed was arrested on suspicion of false imprisonment, official misconduct/second degree and sexual contact – no consent, according to a news release from the Denver Sheriff Department.

Denver police investigated an allegation that Ahmed solicited a phone number from an inmate in the jail, met the woman after she was released, sexually assaulted her and then warned her not to report it because she would go back to jail, according to a search warrant affidavit filed in the investigation.

The news release said the alleged incident occurred while Ahmed was off-duty and that Ahmed was put on investigatory leave on July 6.

“The Office of the Independent Monitor has been notified, and the Public Integrity Division has opened an investigation,” the email said.

Ahmed became a deputy sheriff in 2019 and is assigned to the Denver County Jail.
