Denver weather: Freeze warning returns Tuesday night

After a night of sub-freezing temperatures, Denver and the surrounding area can brace for another wave of cold, according to the National Weather Service.

Overnight temperatures hit 27 degrees early Tuesday morning in Denver, according to hourly records from the weather service. From Tuesday night into Wednesday, temperatures are forecast to drop even lower, bottoming out at 22 degrees, according to forecasters.

The weather service issued a freeze warning for the Front Range from 2 a.m. to 10 a.m. Tuesday, and another for 10 p.m. Tuesday to 10 a.m. Wednesday.

The warnings cover Larimer, Weld, Boulder, Jefferson, Broomfield, Douglas, Denver, Adams, Arapahoe and Elbert counties. The warnings highlight multiple cities, including Longmont, Boulder, Castle Rock, Fort Collins, Lakewood, Parker, Littleton, Highlands Ranch, Denver and Arvada.

Parts of the warning area could see temperatures as low as 19 degrees overnight Tuesday into Wednesday, according to forecasters.

Residents in the impacted areas should bring pets inside, protect tender plants from the cold and wrap, drain or drip water pipes, forecasters said in the warning.

In Denver, overnight temperature lows are forecast to hover around freezing through Friday night, before rising back up into the 40s, according to the weather service.
