A huge fire tore through Usain Bolt’s restaurant in Jamaica in the early hours of yesterday morning.

The popular landmark, named Tracks & Records, in Montego Bay, St James, was left severely damaged after the fire broke out at around 1am.

Restaurant staff arrived at around 1.45am, where they discovered the fire.

By the time the Jamaica Fire Brigade rushed to the scene, the upper floor was already engulfed in flames.

The fire crew were able to contain the fire, but was unable to prevent significant damage.

The site has been without electricity since Hurricane Melissa passed through, but has been using generator power to support World Central Kitchen to prepare daily meals for storm-affected communities.

Tracks & Records opened in 2018 and is on the Hip Strip, which is one of Jamaica’s most vibrant tourist corridors.

There have been no reports of injuries, and the cause of the fire is still being investigated.

The restaurant, which serves Caribbean cuisine, has not yet opened back up to the public.

Acting Superintendent Oneil Kerr, the Jamaica Fire Brigade’s lead investigator for St James, said the situation had been brought under control ‘within a few minutes’.

However, he added that the damage was significant.

The upper floor area, where the fire was confined, contains the dining room, bar and restrooms.
