Disneyland makes a big change to an original 1955 attraction
Rapunzel’s slender tower will rise high above Storybook Land riders when Disneyland adds a new “Tangled” scene to the miniature world of fairy tale stories that will mark the biggest change to the original 1955 attraction in more than a decade.
A new miniature of Rapunzel’s Tower will be added to the Storybook Land Canal Boats in Fantasyland when the boat ride reopens this winter in honor of the Anaheim theme park’s 70th anniversary celebration.

Concept art shows the tower with a shingled turret will be located between the Patchwork Quilt and Toad Hall along the banks of the attraction.
A miniature boat reminiscent of the one used by Rapunzel and Flynn Rider in the famous lantern scene in “Tangled” will be docked nearby in the water beneath a Casey Jr. Circus Train trellis bridge.

Multiple mini wanted posters of Flynn — each with a different depiction of his difficult-to-draw nose — will dot the stone wall near the new scene.
Riders will hear “When Will My Life Begin?” during the day and “I See the Light” at night from the film’s soundtrack as they float past.

The opening day Disneyland attraction originally debuted in 1955 as Canal Boats of the World before undergoing a transformation into Storybook Land Canal Boats in 1956.
The refreshed attraction featuring fairy tale homes, villages and castles painstakingly recreated at 1:12 scale showcased Walt Disney’s fascination with petite miniatures.

Walt Disney Imagineering added miniature scenes to the classic attraction from “Aladdin” and “The Little Mermaid” in 1994 ahead of Disneyland’s 40th anniversary and “Frozen” in 2014 for the park’s 60th anniversary celebration.
Storybook Land Canal Boats and Casey Jr. Circus Train remain closed as the intertwined Fantasyland attractions undergo an extended refurbishment that began in July.
