President Donald Trump began dancing in front of the new Japanese prime minister before speaking to US troops aboard an aircraft carrier.

After calling Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi a ‘big deal’ for being the country’s first woman prime minister, Trump promised to help Japan.

He added: ‘Anything I can do to help Japan, we will be there. We are an ally at the strongest level.’

The Japanese delegation also made the choice to serve American beef and rice during a working lunch that was mixed with Japanese ingredients.

Both leaders signed the implementation of an agreement for the ‘golden age’ of their nations’ alliance.

But the part of Trump’s visit which garnered the most attention was his solo dance routine to ‘YMCA’ at a US Navy aircraft carrier.

The sailors looked on, laughing and filming as the President did his signature moves.

On board the USS George Washington, Trump said the sailors were ‘good looking’, and the power of the Navy comes from ‘you incredible people’.

Prime Minister Takaichi smiled and cheered behind Trump as he spoke to the hundreds of sailors.

Not everyone was pleased. One social media user wrote: ‘America used to be the gold standard of what every country strived to be. Now they are a laughing stock.’

Another added: ‘He looks like such a fool. Completely unpresidential.’

Others were a bit more positive: ‘He’s solving international relations, one dance move at a time.’

Trump previously showed off his dance moves alongside the 1970s disco band the Village People at his final rally before he was inaugurated in January.

The president was seen pumping his fists and swaying side-to-side, appearing to sing along at times.

YMCA was long considered an anthem of the LGBTQ+ community, nearly 90% of which voted against Trump, according to survey data.

Victor Willis, the group’s lead singer and only remaining original member, has faced backlash for performing at Trump’s rallies and allowing him to use Village People music.

But Willis said he had a change of heart after learning of the sheer number of other artists blocking Trump from using their music.

He also said performing for Trump was not an endorsement, and that the group wanted Kamala Harris to win.

‘We believe that music should be shared across the political spectrum and not preserved for one political side,’ he said at the time.
