HAYWARD — An 18-year-old Pleasanton man is in grave condition after he was shot Thursday night while driving in Hayward with a friend, police said Saturday.
The 17-year-old boy who was wounded, also a Pleasanton resident, has since been released from a hospital, police said.
The shooting happened about 11:11 p.m. Thursday near the intersection of Mission Boulevard and Industrial Parkway.
The two victims were the only ones in the vehicle. Police are trying to ascertain why they were in Hayward, Officer Cassondra Fovel said.
After they were shot the two were able to drive to the area of the 100 block of W. Tennyson Road where the 17-year-old called 911, authorities said.

Both victims were transported to a hospital where they younger one was treated and released.
The 18-year-old is in grave condition and remains on life support, authorities said.
Police are trying to determine a motive for the shooting. No arrests have been made.
Police said there is no indication at this time that this shooting and one that happened about 2 a.m. Wednesday in the 24000 block of Second Street that left a 15-year-old Rodeo boy dead and a 13-year-old boy wounded are connected. But police did say that is something being examined by detectives.
