Ten minutes after getting behind the wheel of a carjacked SUV on the city’s Southwest Side, a motorist crashed and plowed into a tree, leaving him dead late Tuesday in the East Garfield Park neighborhood.
Around 11:30 p.m., the silver SUV jumped a curb and struck the tree in the westbound lanes of 2800 block of West Van Buren Street, Chicago police said.
The male motorist inside the SUV was found unresponsive and pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
About 10 minutes earlier, the SUV was taken during a carjacking in the 4200 block of South Artesian Avenue in Brighton Park, officials said. No one was injured in the carjacking.
