OAKLAND — A 34-year-old man who told police he was shot Thursday evening while driving in East Oakland was in stable condition Friday, authorities said.
According to initial reports, the man, an Oakland resident, told police he was driving alone in the 5000 block of San Leandro Street about 5 p.m. Thursday when he heard what sounded like a popping noise and realized he had been wounded in the back.
He was able to drive himself to a hospital.
Police are trying to determine a motive for the shooting and if the man was shot by someone in another vehicle or by someone standing outside.
