A serious car crash caused long queues on the M25 today, with motorists warned to expect delays.

The motorway was closed off to all drivers shortly before lunchtime on Saturday due to a collision.

Lanes were closed between junction 11 for the M11 and junction 28 for Brentwood in Essex.

Long tailbacks were reported on the M11 near the junction with the M25, which is one of the busiest roads in the UK.

A diversion was put in place and drivers were urged to avoid the area as queues of several miles started to form.

Drivers were urged to come off the M25 and follow the A406 North Circular Road and then continue on the A12 at the Redbridge Interchange.

Emergency services were called to the crash including Essex Police.

The AA and National Highways described the collision as ‘serious’.

National Highways said confirmed the M25 reopened at around 1.40pm after the vehicle involved in the crash was removed.

But it warned there were ‘residual delays’ of up to half an hour.
