A 29-year-old woman faces several charges including DUI after a hit and run that left a 76-year-old man dead in Chicago Lawn, according to Chicago police.
Nyamca Tolefree, of Chicago Lawn, was charged with failure to report an accident involving death and driving under the influence of alcohol, police said.
Tolefree allegedly struck the unidentified pedestrian, who was crossing the street around 9:25 p.m. in the 7000 block of South Western Avenue. She tried to flee, but was arrested an hour later, police said.
The victim suffered severe trauma and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn where he was pronounced dead at 11:35 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
Tolefree was also cited with carrying alcohol in a vehicle and failure to reduce speed and exercise due care to avoid an accident, police said.
She will make her first court appearance Friday.
