A driver was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence after a fiery crash that killed a man and two boys early Saturday, Nov. 16, in Upland.
Around 2:19 a.m., a semi-truck was traveling eastbound in the far-right lane of the 210 Freeway just east of Base Line Road, when a car that officials believe was a Ford Taurus approached at a high speed and crashed into the back of the semi, said Officer Rodrigo Jimenez, a spokesperson for the California Highway Patrol’s Rancho Cucamonga office.
After the crash, a 35-year-old male driver got out of the car before it was engulfed in flames, Jimenez said Monday.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze and found a man in the front passenger seat and two boys in the back seat. All three were pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the car was arrested on suspicion of DUI. Officials believe alcohol played a “determining factor” in the crash. The man was released from custody to a hospital, where he was being treated for major injuries.
Authorities did not immediately release the names, ages or other identifying information for the suspect or those killed.
The driver of the semi-truck didn’t report any injuries.
