An Eagle County woman charged with killing a cyclist in a hit-and-run crash was sentenced to 16 years in prison as part of a plea deal, according to court records.
Sidney Rayne Whitmarsh, 25, pleaded guilty Wednesday to leaving the scene of an accident involving death and vehicular homicide while driving under the influence.
Prosecutors dismissed charges of tampering with evidence, careless driving resulting in death, failing to report an accident, concealing death and conspiracy as part of the plea agreement, court records show.
The body of Mario Vildozola Romero, 43, was found down an embankment off the north side of U.S. 6 in Edwards on Jan. 9 surrounded by debris, two days after he was reported missing.
Colorado State Patrol troopers found part of a fog lamp at the scene and later connected a white Subaru Outback to Whitmarsh, who had abruptly quit her job after the crash. She was arrested in Arkansas in March 2024.
