East Bay man sentenced on federal gun charges

ANTIOCH – An East Bay man was sentenced Tuesday to roughly 7½ years in federal prison for unlawful firearm possession, prosecutors said.

Timothy Demetrius Jeffrey, 44, of Antioch, was convicted by a jury in March on two counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

On April 25, 2023, Jeffrey, also known as “Boo,” drove into a Pittsburg shopping center parking lot, parked and tried to run from a pursuing police officer, prosecutors said, adding that he tossed a Glock 9mm semiautomatic pistol with an extended magazine and 19 rounds of ammunition over a fence before he was arrested.

Jeffrey absconded shortly after posting bond, according to prosecutors. But on March 27, 2024, authorities found and arrested him at a relative’s home in Antioch.

During a search of the residence, authorities found an Aero Precision AR-style rifle with a magazine and 25 rounds of ammunition under a couch, prosecutors said.

Authorities also seized a cellphone used by Jeffrey. It contained text messages in which he tried to sell the rifle, according to prosecutors.

At the time of his April 2023 and March 2024 arrests, Jeffrey was on supervised release following past convictions for being a felon in possession of a firearm, escape from custody, and conspiracy and possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance.

In addition to sentencing Jeffrey to 92 months in prison, a federal judge ordered the defendant to serve two years for violating the terms of his supervised release in the other cases, prosecutors said. The two prison terms will be served concurrently.
