One of the two East Bay suspects charged in the October killing of Mark Calcagni, the manager of San Francisco’s historic Condor Club who was gunned down outside his Santa Rosa home, pleaded no contest Thursday, according to Sonoma County court records.
Asia Lozano Morton, 25, of Dublin, is accused of helping her boyfriend in the Oct. 3 killing. She was initially charged with accessory after the fact and pleaded not guilty in late October.
On Thursday, Morton changed her plea to no contest, waiving her right to a jury trial.
Her boyfriend, Richard Lund, 43, also of Dublin, is accused of carrying out the shooting and has pleaded not guilty to murder and illegal gun possession. Both had worked at the Condor Club before Calcagni dismissed them.
Investigators said they believe the killing was planned and potentially tied to Calcagni’s decision to fire Lund and Morton from their jobs at the North Beach landmark, known as the nation’s first topless bar.
Calcagni, 60, had returned home from work around 5 a.m. when he was shot near his Brookwood Avenue residence. A passerby found his body on a sidewalk nearby roughly 90 minutes later.
Police arrested Lund at his Dublin home later that month. Morton was taken into custody at San Francisco International Airport when she returned from a trip to Spain.
Lund remains in jail without bail. A judge previously allowed Morton to await trial outside jail under strict supervision, including GPS monitoring and an order barring contact with Lund.
Morton is scheduled to be sentenced Jan. 15.
