Employee taken into custody after barricading herself for hours at California middle school

Olive Middle School in Baldwin Park was evacuated Thursday morning, May 1 after an employee caused a disturbance and barricaded herself inside the front office. The woman was taken into custody several hours later, officials said.

No injuries were reported.

At around 9:45 a.m., Baldwin Park police received a call reporting a woman interrupting the school’s operations, Lt. Evan Martin said. Students and staff members were evacuated from the campus at 13701 E Olive St. to nearby Walnut Elementary School as a precaution.

Officers initially communicated with the woman, but she later closed the door and barricaded herself inside the office, Martin said. Officers and an armored vehicle went to the scene, according to ABC7.

The woman was taken into custody around 9:30 p.m., Baldwin Park City Manager Enrique C. Zaldivar told City News Service.

Authorities did not disclose what prompted the initial disturbance or what led to the barricade.
