Erie man killed in Missouri car crash that injured three, killed two

Two people were killed and three others injured in a Missouri car crash involving three Erie residents on Monday, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Man sentenced to life in prison in fatal Commerce City shooting

A 16-year-old boy fell asleep at the wheel while driving a Chevrolet Silverado eastbound on U.S. 50 near Warrensburg, Missouri, according to a traffic crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol. The Chevrolet traveled off the right side of the road, then re-entered the road and crossed U.S. 50 Business, according to the report. The car became airborne and hit a northbound Acura RDX that was stopped at an intersection. Both vehicles went off the roadway and the Acura also hit a road sign, the report states.

Derek Moffett, 55, of Erie, and Patricia Moffett, 83, of Overland Park, Kansas, died at the scene, the report states. Alexandria Moffett, 19, and a 16-year-old girl who is not being identified due to her age, both of Erie, were life-flighted to Research Medical Center in Kansas City in serious condition, according to highway patrol.

The 16-year-old driver of the Chevrolet was taken to the Western Missouri Medical Center with minor injuries, the report states.
