Fair evacuated after man got electric shock on bungee ride set up under pylon

One person was taken to hospital and two more were treated at the scene. The bungee cord trampoline ride was set up under a pylon at the event in East Sussex. The event in Markstates Common, near Chailey was immediately abandoned. Organiser Yasmin Tomlinson posted on Facebook: "I'm really sorry to let everyone know but due to a serious incident we are having to evacuate our fete and postpone our event. "We are so sorry and so sad." The annual event was organised by the Chailey Bonfire Society to raise money for a Christmas fireworks display and party. A spokesman for the ambulance service said three people were assessed at the scene and one was taken to hospital for further treatment. "It did not appear they were in a serious condition," the spokesman said.

A man suffered an electric shock and two other people were hurt when a bungee ride was set up underneath a pylon at a village fair.

The St George’s Day fete in Markstates Common, near Chailey in East Sussex, was evacuated after the incident this morning.

Organiser Yasmin Tomlinson posted on Facebook: ‘I’m really sorry to let everyone know but due to a serious incident we are having to evacuate our fete and postpone our event.

‘We are so sorry and so sad.’

In a reply, Linda Truluck described ‘a massive bang and smoke’ coming from the ride after ‘the metal poles touched the electric power lines’.

She added: ‘Thankfully no one was hurt.’

‘It did not appear they were in a serious condition,’ the spokesman said.

A spokesman for Sussex Police said: ‘Police assisted emergency services with a medical incident at an event in Markstakes Corner, Chailey, reported at about 11am on Saturday, April 26.

‘It is understood that a man in his 20s sustained an electric shock and was taken to hospital as a precaution.’
