La familia de un hombre de Waukegan asesinado en el desfile del 4 de julio de 2022 en Highland Park está demandando al fabricante de armas, Smith & Wesson, alegando que comercializó un arma estilo AR-15 para adolescentes a pesar de su uso en tiroteos masivos.
La demanda fue presentada el viernes en nombre de la familia de Eduardo Uvaldo, una de las siete personas muertas en el tiroteo masivo. Un grupo de sobrevivientes y familiares de niños que estaban en el desfile también forman parte de la demanda.
“Eduardo era un hombre amable, cariñoso y trabajador que adoraba a su familia”, dijo la familia Uvaldo en un comunicado conjunto. “Se lo llevaron demasiado pronto debido a las acciones tanto de un hombre perturbado como de la codiciosa corporación que fabricó y comercializó su arma”.
No fue posible contactar inmediatamente a un representante de Smith & Wesson para que hiciera comentarios. La denuncia también nombra a Budgsunshop.com y Red Dot Arms, alegando que ambas vendieron el arma a alguien que sabían que no estaba autorizado a tenerla.
Robert E. Crimo III se enfrenta a 21 cargos de asesinato en primer grado y a docenas de otros cargos derivados del tiroteo, en el que también resultaron heridas casi 50 personas de edades entre los 8 y los 88 años.
