A dad and his three children are missing after a tour boat carrying 11 people sank overnight in Indonesia.

The boat was carrying the Spanish family of six, four crew members and a local guide when it went down on Friday evening after suffering engine failure on a trip from Komodo Island.

Fathur Rahman said three people were rescued by a passing vessel, and four others were picked up by a search and rescue team.

The survivors included the Spanish mum and one daughter. The dad, two sons and another daughter are still missing.

The search was suspended Saturday evening because of bad weather and poor visibility and will resume early Sunday.

Komodo National Park attracts thousands of visitors for diving, trekking and wildlife tours.

‘Our teams have been combing the northern waters of Padar Island until dusk,’ Rahman said.

He added: ‘We are determined to find the victims.’

In January 2023, a boat capsized in Bali leaving dozens of tourists stranded in the water.

Passengers onboard the boat were spotted wearing lifejackets and leaping into the sea as the overturned vessel sank right next to them.

The incident took place at around 4.30pm on Tuesday near the island of Nusa Penida, which is just off the coast of mainland Bali.

The Kebo Iwa Express was believed to be about 25 minutes into its trip from Nusa Penida to Sanur when it sprang a leak and sank, approximately two nautical miles away from its destination.
