Family of newborn found dead outside Brighton repair shop in 2002 still sought
Twenty-four years after a newborn was found dead outside a Brighton auto repair shop, police are still searching for anyone related to the baby boy.
The sheriff’s office commissioned a comprehensive genealogical profile for the infant, but no definitive familial ties have yet been established, according to an X post by the Weld County Sheriff’s Office. The case has been logged into NamUs, a national resource center for missing, unidentified and unclaimed person cases, as UP10386.

On Sept. 11, 2002, employees of L&M Auto Repair noticed the infant under a bush outside the shop. He was wrapped in a blue blanket that said “Skate Bear” and had a graphic of a bear, the release states.
There were no other clues found on the scene that indicated anything about the newborn or the circumstances surrounding his death.
The newborn had dark hair and was estimated to be white, Latino and/or Italian. He weighed about seven pounds and was 21 inches long when he died, according to the release.
Pathologists determined the baby was born healthy between 10 p.m. the night before and 2 a.m. that day, but were unable to definitively establish a cause of death, the release states.
