Four fire engines have been called in to tackle a fire at Heathrow Airport’s Terminal 3 car park.

The blaze is believed to have started after a car caught fire, with flames spreading through the multi-storey facility.

One car was completely destroyed in the blaze, with two more suffering minor damage.

Thick black plumes of smoke are pouring from the car park, with bright orange flames burning inside.

It comes not long after the M25 was forced to close at the Heathrow Airport junction following a serious accident.

The clockwise carriageway is completely closed, with drivers being diverted via an ‘up and over’ closure at the entry and exit slip roads.

National Highways warns drivers are facing hour-long delays and says those heading to the airport should allow extra time for their journey.

Part of the M4’s southbound carriageway has also been closed due to the blaze.

Drivers trying to reach Heathrow Airport using junction 4 of the M4 are being advised to use M4 junction 3 or the M25 junction 14.

And Arriva’s 724 bus service has been forced to start and terminate at Terminal 5 due to the fire, meaning it can no longer serve the Greenways or Lees Road stops.

A spokesperson for Heathrow Airport said the fire has since been extinguished – but the car park is currently closed, which could cause congestion and delays on surrounding roads.

The statement said: ‘Earlier this morning our teams responded to a small vehicle fire in the Multi Storey Car Park for Terminal 3.

‘The fire was quickly extinguished. The car park is temporarily closed which may cause some congestion on surrounding roads.

‘This is an isolated incident and all other car parks at Heathrow are operating as normal. We apologise to passengers for any inconvenience.’

London Fire Brigade said: ‘Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters were called to a fire in a multi-storey car park at Heathrow Airport.

‘A car on level one was destroyed by fire and two adjacent vehicles sustained minor damage. There were no reports of any injuries.

‘The Brigade’s control officers took the first of eight calls to the fire at 9.04am and sent crews from Heathrow, Hayes and Feltham fire stations to the scene. The fire was under control by 10.06am.

‘The cause of the fire is under investigation.’
