The Fire’s game Saturday against Nashville at Soldier Field went better than the matchup between the teams April 26 in Nashville, Tennessee, but the result turned out to be the same.
Hany Mukhtar scored in the 56th minute and Sam Surridge in the 75th to lead Nashville to a 2-0 victory against the Fire (7-6-4) in the second game of a men’s and women’s doubleheader. The Stars played to a 2-2 draw against the Reign in the opener.
The Fire, who were routed 7-2 the last time the teams played, put eight shots on goal, but Nashville keeper Joe Willis turned them all aside en route to the shutout. Jeffrey Gal made one save for the Fire.
• The Stars (1-8-3) yielded two goals in the last three minutes of the second half and settled for a 2-2 tie with the Reign in NWSL action at Soldier Field.
Ludmila scored in the 11th and 13th minutes to stake the Stars to a 2-0 lead, and that score held until Lynn Biyendolo tallied in the 87th and Jordyn Bugg in the 89th for the Reign.
