Los Angeles firefighters extinguished a small blaze outside Jimmy Kimmel’s Hollywood Hills home, as controversy swirled over his return to the airwaves following a brief hiatus prompted by remarks about Charlie Kirk and the discourse about his assassination.
First responders were called to Kimmel’s residence on the 1600 block of Marmont Avenue early Thursday morning, NBC Los Angeles reported Friday. When crews arrived on the scene around 7 a.m., they located a small “rubbish fire” abutting the side of Kimmel’s home.
It took a half-dozen firefighters to put out the flames, the Los Angeles Fire Department said. They were able to quickly extinguish fire and no injuries were reported.
Per a preliminary investigation, it appeared to be an electrical ire, sparked under the stairs outside of Kimmel’s home.
Kimmel’s temporary suspension, announced by Disney-owned ABC earlier this month, was triggered by comments he made about the ongoing discourse swirling around the late Charlie Kirk, who was fatally shot during a speaking engagement at Utah Valley University earlier this month. Kirk, a Trump supporter and major player in the MAGA movement, was just 31 years old.
“We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it,” Kimmel said in monologue on Sept. 15.
The late-night host also offered his condolences to Kirk’s family in the immediate aftermath of the deadly shooting.
