This is the first picture of a seven-month-old baby girl who was killed by a dog at home.

Elle Doherty died after she was attacked by her family pet and suffered serious head injuries at a house in Coventry on Sunday.

Emergency services rushed to Shorncliffe Road shortly after 3pm and paramedics treated the young tot at the scene before taking her to hospital.

She sadly died a short time later.

The dog involved was registered as a Belgian Malinois, which is not considered to be a dangerous breed.

It was removed from the property following the attack and humanely destroyed.

A West Midlands Police spokesman said: ‘Following a detailed investigation into the circumstances of the death of a baby who tragically died after being bitten by a pet dog at a home in Coventry, detectives are now satisfied that there have been no criminal offences.

‘We have updated Elle’s family, and a file is now being prepared for the coroner.

‘Our thoughts remain with the family at this tragic time, and they have now asked to be left to grieve in private.’

Earlier this year, a three-year-old boy was mauled by his family’s pet XL Bully, while a child, five, was also left with life-changing injuries after a dog attack.

In 2022, 17-month-old girl Bella-Rae Birch was killed by a dog her parents had only owned for a week.

XL Bully dogs were banned in the UK as of February this year after a string of attacks, some of which were fatal.
