Four arrested in wake of gunfire near Richmond school

RICHMOND — Four people have been arrested, and police said they were seeking felony battery charges against three of them for their roles in an altercation that led to gunfire near a school last week.

In a statement, Richmond police said they made the arrests last Wednesday after a department SWAT team served a search warrant at an undisclosed location in North Richmond.

Two adults and one person under 18 were arrested on suspicion of felony battery for their actions in an initial fight between kids and adults that led to the gunfire, Lt. Donald Patchin said via email. Police have not identified the person who fired the shot.

Police arrested another adult involved in incident on suspicion of conspiracy and theft, Patchin said.

The gunfire happened on Dec. 15 about 12:05 p.m. during a fight in the 800 block of Chanslor Avenue near Sylvester Greenwood Academy. Police said at least one shot was fired.

The gunfire didn’t injury anybody, but it damaged a building at the school.
