Freebie of the week: Free Shakespeare Festival in Griffith Park

We’re sadly coming to the end of annual Griffith Park Free Shakespeare Festival, which runs at 7 p.m. Wednesdays through Sundays through Aug. 31.

Don’t hate us, but the August show is actually not Shakespeare, it’s Christopher Marlowe’s “Doctor Faustus” written around 1590. It deals with the devil, so it might be scary for some kids. Performances take place at the Dell atop the Old Zoo. Seating is general admission, but reservations are requested due to space limitations.

Bring a picnic, blanket or low-back chairs. Please note: liquor is not allowed and leave the pooches at home.

It’s uphill from the parking area, so call 818-710-6306 for ADA access if you’re mobility challenged.

If you want to support the company, you can also spend $60 for a reserved seat. To find it, search Google Maps for Old Zoo Picnic area. Learn more:  indieshakes.org/free-shakespeare-2025
