Four tanker cars of a freight train derailed Friday afternoon in South Deering on the South Side, the Chicago Fire Department said.
Firefighters responded to the scene near 99th Street and Marquette Avenue. Preliminary reports suggest there was no leakage from the tankers, a CFD spokesperson told the Sun-Times. It was not immediately clear what the tankers were carrying.
Video and photos provided by WGN-TV show the tanker cars off the tracks and at least one on its side. Emergency crews can also be seen at the site.
The derailment did not affect Metra or Amtrak operations, the two rail agencies told the Sun-Times on Friday afternoon.
