Man killed in East Bay freeway offramp crash is identified

The two-vehicle crash happened around 7:10 p.m. at the intersection of Mowry Avenue and Crosspointe Common, the Fremont Police Department said in a news release.

The motorcyclist was traveling westbound on Mowry Avenue and collided with the front of a passenger vehicle making a left turn from eastbound Mowry Avenue onto Crosspointe Common, police said, citing an initial investigation.

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. Police did not identify the motorcyclist.

The death marked the eighth traffic fatality of the year on city streets.

The driver of the passenger vehicle stopped at the scene and cooperated with the investigation.

The cause of the crash is under investigation, but police said alcohol and drugs did not appear to play a role.
