Fremont: One shot dead, one injured in city’s first homicide of 2025

FREMONT — Fremont police are investigating the city’s first homicide of the year after reporting one person dead and another injured in a shooting Friday night.

Police responded at 6:42 p.m. to a reported shooting in the 39000 block of Overacker Avenue and found two victims shot, according to a press release issued Saturday morning. One victim died at the scene and another was transported to a nearby trauma center, spokeswoman Amy Gee said in an interview Saturday.

Gee declined to provide the age, gender or city of residence of either victim, citing the ongoing investigation. She also said the Alameda County Coroner’s Office is working to notify the dead victim’s next of kin.

Gee said no arrests have been made in the shooting. Responding officers did not discharge any service weapons, she added.

Police at 7:35 p.m. Friday sent out an initial notice for the public to avoid the area of Mission Boulevard and Walnut Avenue due to “active police activity. Gee said police began closing parts of the roadway after 7 p.m. Friday and reopened the roads after midnight.

Fremont recorded five homicides last year, including two that happened on the same day in July.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the Fremont Police Investigations Unit at (510) 790-6900.
