FREMONT – A pedestrian who was struck by a driver in mid-April died of his injuries last week, according to police.
The collision happened around 7:40 p.m. on April 15 near the intersection of Mission Boulevard and Mohave Drive, the Fremont Police Department said in a news release Wednesday. The pedestrian was taken to an area hospital, where he died April 25.
The death marked the third traffic fatality of the year on city streets.
Police have not publicly identified the pedestrian.
A preliminary investigation determined the pedestrian was traveling northbound across westbound lanes of Mission Boulevard when he was hit by the driver, according to police. The pedestrian was not in a marked crosswalk at the time of the collision,
The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation, police said.
The cause of the collision is under investigation, but police said alcohol and drugs did not appear to play a role.
