The May bank holiday is upon us which is great if you are one of the lucky ones with an extra day off work.
There are businesses which decide to close all together or open for a shorter period of time during the long weekend.
This, of course, could include your local supermarket.
But don’t worry, to make sure you don’t turn up to find the shutters down, we’ve taken a look at this weekend’s opening times for ASDA, Co-op, Aldi, Tesco, Iceland, Lidl, Morrisons, Waitrose and Sainsbury’s.
When is ASDA open over May bank holiday?
ASDA stores will be open as usual this bank holiday weekend.
Opening times can vary by store, so if you want to double check individual store opening times you can do so using the store locator.
When is Co-op open over May bank holiday?
Co-ops can vary a lot in size, from medium-sized stores to teeny tiny petrol station spots.
Co-op will be open as usual over the May bank holiday with the majority of Co-op convenience stores being open from 7am-10pm.
As always, check your local Co-op’s opening hours with the supermarket’s branch finder.
Aldi May bank holiday opening times
Aldi will be open during the following hours on each day during this May bank holiday weekend:
- Saturday May 24: 8am – 10pm
- Sunday May 25: 10am – 4pm
- Bank Holiday Monday: 8am – 8pm

Is Iceland open on May bank holiday?
Iceland stores will be open as usual during this bank holiday weekend.
Iceland’s store locator will have you covered if you need to check when your local is open for business.
When is Lidl open over May bank holiday?
Lidl will be open this weekend and will follow regular opening hours.
Your local Lidl’s trading hours can be found on the supermarket’s store tracker.
When is Morrisons open over May bank holiday?
Morrisons has said it will be open as usual and then open on bank holiday Monday from 7am to 8pm. Some other stores will be open slightly longer.

When is Sainsbury’s open over the May bank holiday?
Most Sainsbury’s stores will vary by stores over this bank holiday weekend.

When is Tesco open over May bank holiday?
Tesco opening times this May bank holiday will vary by store but the majority of its large branches will be open from 8am to 6pm.
Most of its branches in Scotland will be open from 8am to 8pm, while in Northern Ireland, the supermarket will operate normal opening hours.

Is Waitrose open this weekend?
Waitrose opening hours will vary this weekend, with some Little Waitrose shops open from 7am to 10pm.
On bank holiday Monday, expect stores to open at 8am and close at 6pm.
