A 13-year-old girl has been gang raped by four men after being dragged into a KFC toilet in Paris, it has been reported.

The teenager was with her friends in the Chatelet-Les Halles district in the French capital before the suspects reportedly led her away.

The attack happened in the Forum des Halles shopping centre at around 10.45pm on Monday.

A passerby alerted police after coming across the victim and listening to her account of the assault.

Four men aged between 18 and 24 were arrested at the shopping centre after the girl was able to point out her alleged attackers to officers.

The suspects were detained on suspicion of rape of a minor under 15 and face questioning by the Juvenile Protection Unit, local news Entrevue reported.

The teenager has received medical and psychological reports following the alleged incident.

An investigation into the incident is underway as police review CCTV footage.

The four men could face up to 20 years in prison.

Sexual violence in France appears to have increased over the years, according to recent data.

An annual survey conducted by the French government’s Ministerial Statistical Service for Internal Security gathers data on crime and national security.

In a report published in 2023 it found that 270,000 women said they were victims of sexual violence, including rape, attempted rape and sexual assault, as reported by Le Monde.

In 2022, around 1.14 million women said they suffered non-physical sexual violence, such as sexual harassment and indecent exposure, the report also said.

Conversations surrounding sexual violence and rape in France gained national and international attention following the trial of Gisèle Pelicot, 72, against her ex-husband, Domnique Pelicot and 50 other men in Avignon, France.

Gisèle waived her anonymity during the rape and sexual assault trial, which sparked several protests against sexual violence, in particular sexual violence experienced by girls and women at the hands of men.
