Girl, 3, dies after Porsche going wrong way down M6 smashed into her mum’s car head-on

A GIRL of three died when a Porsche going the wrong way on the M6 hit her mum’s car head-on, an inquest heard.

Terrence Unsworth, 79, had joined the motorway, slowed and performed a U-turn before driving into oncoming traffic.

Two drivers were able to swerve out of the way but Beth Dawson was unable to avoid his car.

In a statement read out on her behalf, Beth said: “I always strapped her in properly and I specifically purchased this booster seat for Faye.

“I would not have taken any action to put her at risk and I always put her in the rear passenger so I could check she was ok.

“I recall seeing two cars moving over to the second lane and I tried to but there was no time. I blacked out.”

Daughter Faye died of “multiple injuries” when thrown from her car seat.

Preston coroner’s court heard they had been to see Blackpool Illuminations.

Faye was strapped in but “had moved out of her seatbelt unintentionally or intentionally”.

Assistant Coroner Richard Taylor concluded Faye, of Wallasey, Merseyside, died as the result of a road traffic accident.

Unsworth also died at the scene in Leyland, Lancs, in November 2022
