Glasgow murder accused, 13, locked up until trial following plea by Crown after initially being freed on bail

A 13-YEAR-OLD murder accused has been locked up until his trial following a plea by prosecutors – after initially being freed on bail by a Sheriff.

The youth is alleged to have stabbed 16-year-old Kory McCrimmon to death in Glasgow’s east end two weeks ago.

The teen, who can’t be named for legal reasons, appeared at the city’s sheriff court on Tuesday where he made no plea – and was freed on strict bail conditions.

But the Crown immediately appealed that decision and he was detained at a secure unit until the issue was resolved.

On Friday, the appeal was successful and he was remanded in custody.

A spokesman for the Scottish Courts and Tribunal Service said: “The Crown Bail Appeal for the accused was granted – they will be remaining within custody.”

The news comes as a fundraiser for Kory’s family was set up by kindhearted locals in Barrowfield, Glasgow – where Kory was from.

A massive balloon release for the Rangers fan and footie starlet was also held for the lad in Barrowfield Park last weekend.

The appeal read: ‘On the 2nd June, the McCrimmon family’s life was changed for ever when the burning bright flame of young Kory McCrimmon was tragically extinguished, leaving behind heartbreak, heartache and a legacy of beautiful memories.

‘Full of life and character, Kory was a popular boy: a loveable rogue, funny and fun-loving, bold and brave, a cheeky chappy with a winning way.

‘Kory’s sea of devastated friends are testament to his good nature and his personality, caring and colourful, will be felt by all those he’s left behind for years to come.

‘This is a tragedy beyond words.

‘Please help us – friends and neighbours – support the McCrimmon family and their loved ones in this very dark and troubling time.

‘Fly high Kory Boy. Forever Young.’

Court papers state that the youth stabbed Kory on the body with a knife or a similar bladed article in Greenfield Park on Friday May 31.

Kory was taken to the city’s Queen Elizabeth University Hospital and passed away there two Sundays ago.
