Got a confusing hospital bill? We want to hear from you

Prices for common surgical procedures or diagnostic tests can vary widely depending on your health insurance plan and which Chicago-area hospital you visit.

For example, prices at one suburban hospital for a cesarean section ranged from $16,000 to $27,000. And sometimes the hospital’s listed cash price for a procedure or test is lower than the price it bills your insurance.

These are some of the early findings of a Chicago Sun-Times project, in partnership with the Mansueto Institute for Urban Innovation at the University of Chicago, to shed light on hospital pricing and insurance discounts.

Now, we want to hear from you if you recently had a medical procedure or test at a Chicago-area hospital. Did the hospital charges seem high that were billed to your insurance? Was the billing process confusing? We want to see how your experience with navigating hospital care compares with what we’re seeing.
