Grand Crossing man charged with killing 15-year-old and injuring 12-year-old in New City

A Grand Crossing man was charged with killing a 15-year-old boy and wounding a 12-year-old boy in a shooting Thursday afternoon.

Daniel Navas Maiver, 19, was arrested in the 7400 block of South Harvard Avenue around 12:10 a.m. Friday and charged with first degree murder and attempted first degree murder, Chicago police said.

He allegedly shot the two teens around 3:45 p.m. Thursday in the 600 block of West 47th Street in the Canaryville neighborhood, poilce said.

Alex Durante, 15, was shot in the hip and pronounced dead Thursday night, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

The younger boy was shot in the chest and taken to Comer Children’s Hospital in critical condition, authorities said.

Navas Maiver was scheduled to appear for a court hearing Sunday.
