Charges are pending for a knife-wielding man who was shot by an off-duty Broadview police officer Wednesday night in Greater Grand Crossing, according to Chicago police.
The officer, a 64-year-old man, was leaving his vehicle just after 9 p.m. in an alley in the 7300 block of South Langley Avenue when the armed man moved toward him, Chicago police said.
The officer shot the man multiple times in his legs, police said. The man fled but was found a short time later by responding officers.
He was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center where he was in serious condition, officials said. The officer was taken to an area hospital for observation and was in good condition.
A knife was recovered at the scene, authorities said.
Charges were pending.
