Military ordnance was found Friday in a storage area on the USC campus, prompting a response from police and fire officials, though authorities said there was no threat to the public.
Officers responded to the 3600 block of McClintock Avenue about 12:30 p.m., according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
A bomb squad was dispatched to investigate the item, described as a grenade, but officials determined it posed no danger, an officer told City News Service.
The Los Angeles Fire Department also responded with one engine, a rescue ambulance and a battalion chief.
Police confirmed the area was secure and no evacuations were needed.
The discovery comes two weeks after three Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies were killed when a grenade seized in Santa Monica detonated.
