A 19-year-old high school senior was shot to death Tuesday night in Morgan Park on the Far South Side.
Treyvon Winfield, 19, was in the 1000 block of 115th Street when a male approached him and opened fire about 8:10 p.m., Chicago police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.
Winfield, of Harvey, suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was taken to Roseland Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 8:28 p.m., the medical examiner’s office said.
No arrests were made.
Winfield was in the 12th grade at Morgan Park High School, according to Principal Dan Kuzma.
“We are extremely saddened by this loss and will do everything we can to help our school community heal,” Kuzma said in a letter to Morgan Park High School families and staff.
Kuzma said the school is working closely with the school district’s Crisis Management Unit to provide grief counseling and support to students and staff. Information about funeral services will be shared as soon as information is available, Kuzma added.
