SUNNYVALE — A high-profile Google subsidiary that has launched a renovation of the landmark Hangar One has just sold a small building in Sunnyvale to a veteran Bay Area real estate firm.
Google unit Planetary Ventures has sold a building at 494 South Bernardo Ave. to an affiliate controlled by California Communities and Mozart Development, according to documents filed on Dec. 19 with the Santa Clara County Recorder’s Office.
By happenstance, Planetary Ventures is undertaking a wide-ranging modernization and restoration of the historic Hangar One in Mountain View.
The Mozart Development homebuilding unit, California Communities, paid $15.5 million for the property, county real estate files show.
A childcare center is located on the property, according to information from the Google Maps site.
Planetary Ventures bought the 494 South Bernardo property in 2007, paying $6.3 million for the site, a real estate database shows.
In 2024, CBRE, a commercial real estate firm, circulated a marketing brochure that stated the property was up for sale. The just-bought site totals 1.5 acres, the marketing materials stated.
“Suburban core residential development opportunity” was listed as a potential future benefit for a buyer.
California Communities stated on its website that it is an independent homebuilder that’s active in the Bay Area. The company’s completed projects include single-family homes and townhouses.
