Hollister car chase ends in crash, arrest of two South Bay residents

HOLLISTER – A 30-year-old San Jose man and a 30-year-old Gilroy woman were arrested following a car chase and crash Wednesday in Hollister, according to authorities.

Around 3 p.m., officers started receiving alerts from public safety cameras that a Dodge Durango wanted in connection with an earlier pursuit in neighboring Gilroy had entered the city, Hollister police Senior Officer Staci Esqueda said in a news release.

An officer found the Dodge and tried to pull it over, but the driver did not stop, Esqueda said.

Esqueda said the driver tried to evade the officer, but he eventually crashed into two vehicles after running a stop sign at the intersection of Locust Avenue and Fourth Street.

The occupants of the Dodge – the San Jose man and the Gilroy woman – ran from the scene, Esqueda said. The officer quickly caught the man and the woman was later found hiding in the backyard of a home.

Inside the Dodge, officers found more than 100 pieces of stolen mail and personal documents from addresses in Santa Clara County, as well as narcotics, Esqueda said.

The occupants of the Dodge were taken to Hazel Hawkins Memorial Hospital for a medical evaluation. They were then booked into San Benito County jail on charges including evading, hit-and-run and possession of stolen property, Esqueda said.

Esqueda said the drivers of the other vehicles were treated at the scene for minor injuries.
