A stretch of the M5 has closed after a body was found on the motorway in the West Midlands.
The busy motorway has closed in two places after the discovery of a body and an unrelated crash further north on the M5 outside Birmingham.
Emergency services were alerted after the grim discovery between junction J3 at Quinton and J2 (Oldbury).
Further details about the identity of the person and how they ended up on the carriageway are yet to be released.
The road remains shut in both directions and drivers face 50-minute delays in the area, National Highways warned.
Meanwhile, part of the M5 is also closed between J3 and the M6 junction following a separate collision.
The police urged drivers to find an alternative route away from the scene as the closure is expected to last ‘some time.’
People took to social media after news of the road closure emerged.
One person said: ‘That’s so sad! Deepest sympathy to all involved.’
Drivers warned fellow motorists to avoid the area as it might affect journeys home.
West Midlands Police said: ‘We are at the scene of two serious incidents on the M5 and the motorway is currently closed in both directions near Oldbury/Quinton.
‘It is closed northbound and southbound between J3 at Quinton and J2 at Oldbury after a body was found in the carriageway at just after 10am today.
‘Following a separate collision involving a motorcyclist, the motorway is now closed northbound between J3 at Quinton and the M6.
‘The closures are expected to be in place for some time and drivers are advised to find alternative routes.’
